Todd with Nannygaigrandpa teaching fishingWhether you're a seasoned fisher, or just want to take the kids out for some fun, you can still catch your dinner off of Yorke Peninsula's spectacular coastline.  Dive for delicious scallops, abalone and cray, dangle a line off a jetty for whiting, gar, tommies and squid, rake for blue swimmer crabs, throw a line off the beach for salmon or take a charter, or your own boat, out for snapper, tuna, nannygai and our famous King George whiting.

While a recreational fishing licence is not required in South Australia, it's important to remember that bag, boat and size limits apply to protect the long term sustainability of fish stocks.

Download the free SA Recreational Fishing Guide app for the latest information on South Australian recreational fishing rules, regulations, area closures and size and bag limits.  It also provides weather and marine warnings, and has coloured photos to help you identify your catch.  This app works without network coverage, so it's great for when you are out in the boat.

You can also phone the 24 hour Fishwatch information service for fishing rules and regulations - phone 1800 065 522.

The Yorke Peninsula Fishing Guide is full of information on what can be caught and where, as well as many useful hints on where to get bait and tackle, marine services and boat hire locations.

It's a good idea to check the tide times and weather before you head out for the day.  Visit Willy Weather or the Bureau of Meteorology for more information.

If you want to get out on the water, hire a boat from Port Vincent Auto & Tyre ServicesPort Vincent Foreshore Caravan Park also has single and double kayaks available for hire, life jackets are supplied.

If you want to go fishing but don't have a boat, there are a couple of places where you can hire one.  Port Vincent Auto is one place, and they have a variety of boats available.  Of course, you need to have a boat licence, but all safety gear is included in the hire.

For those keen fisher people who would like to experience deep water fishing, why not call one of the local fishing charters and arrange a trip.  Some of the fishing charters that operate around our area include Big Red Fishing Charters, Balgowan Fishing Charters, Point Turton Reel Screamer, Marion Bay Fishing Charters, and Reef Encounters.  Contact them direct for more information on packages and prices.
